Landmark Properties, a fully-integrated real estate firm specializing in development, construction, investment management, and operation of high-quality residential communities, raised $75,000 for Athens Area Habitat for Humanity at its 2023 Building Hope Through Homes golf invitational. The donation will support Habitat’s Micah’s Creek Project.
“Landmark is proud to continue its strong partnership with our local Habitat for Humanity and its Micah’s Creek project,” said James Whitley, co-founder and COO of Landmark Properties. “This year’s success wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless work of our employees who helped create a great tournament, as well as the golfers and sponsors who share in our vision to make a positive social impact in the communities where we live and work. I look forward to the event’s continued growth and success in the coming years.”
The Micah’s Creek initiative aims to transform local families from renters to homeowners within a single school attendance zone and, for the first time, measure the educational, financial, and social outcomes for those families over a period of several years. This new neighborhood, dubbed Micah’s Creek, will also be the location of Lydia’s Second Home, phase-two of a unique non-profit partnership that provides subsidized housing for formerly homeless students seeking to beat the odds by earning their college degrees.
More than 50 four-person teams competed in this year’s tournament, bringing 204 golfers to the Georgia Club in Statham, Ga. Prizes were awarded to the teams who came in first, second and third place, as well as to the teams in twenty-sixth and last place. The 2023 invitational saw nearly 50 more golfers than Landmark’s inaugural event last year.
Returning sponsors of the invitational made up 98% of this year’s supporting organizations, with 29 new sponsors as well. The sponsors represent a variety of industries from across the country, from neighboring Alabama to California, Indiana, Minnesota, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Massachusetts. Our signature sponsors included 84 Lumber, Capasso Concrete, College Pro Landscaping, Design Environments, International Framers, and Solomon Plumbing. This year’s $75,000 donation is almost double what the invitational raised in its inaugural 2022 year.
“Athens Area Habitat is profoundly grateful for our partnership with Landmark Properties. When businesses in our community work with citizens in need, it creates a stronger social fabric which strengthens the entire community,” said Spencer Frye, executive director of Athens Area Habitat. “I see Landmark as an example for others to follow, demonstrating what can be achieved when we tap into the generosity and good will and desire to help that people have inside them, by providing opportunities for giving back. The funds raised by this year's Building Hope Through Homes invitational will provide construction supplies for a home in our Micah's Creek neighborhood, and I believe the level of support we're seeing in this event shows that people from all walks of life care deeply about housing and helping their neighbors. This tournament is going to have a very real impact and will literally provide a roof over a family's head, and everyone at Landmark Properties involved with it should be extremely proud of what they're accomplishing.”
