United Way of Northeast Georgia Adds Five New Board Members

United Way of Northeast Georgia welcomes five new community members to its Board of Directors this year to serve for a three-year term. These new Board members include Tanya Adcock with St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital; Jacqueline Davis with Caterpillar; Joe Moon with Accelerate Commercial & Business and Velocity Technology; Johnelle Simpson with Fortson, Bentley and Griffin; and Jen Welborn with Athens Technical College.
“Our new Board members bring such a variety of backgrounds, expertise and insights. We look forward to having them join us in our work to continue meeting the highest priority needs in our region. Their knowledge and guidance will be invaluable for not just our organization but the entire region,” said Kay Keller, President and CEO of United Way of Northeast Georgia.
The Board of Directors supports the nonprofit’s mission to motivate and mobilize resources to meet the highest priority needs of individuals and families in Northeast Georgia. New Board Members
Tanya Adcock
Tanya was named President of St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital located in Greensboro in October 2017. She has worked for St. Mary's Health Care System for 20 years. Tanya's clinical and progressive leadership experience includes working as a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery, serving as St. Mary's Palliative Care Manager and Director of St. Mary's Highland Hills Village from 2012-2017. Tanya served as the Loaned Executive for St. Mary's Health Care System for two years. She earned her nursing degree from Athens Technical College in 1998 and her master's degree in Nursing Leadership and Management from Walden University in 2012. In 2011, the Georgia Hospital Association named Tanya a Hospital Hero. In 2012, she received a Hero award from the American Red Cross East Georgia Chapter. Tanya serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Hospital Association Center for Rural Health, the Board of Directors for the Greene County Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce Women in Business committee.
Jacqueline Davis
Jacqueline has been at Caterpillar since December 2010. She has had several different positions at Caterpillar including Purchasing Analyst, Advanced Purchasing Analyst, and now her current role as a Site Buyer. She moved to Athens from Clayton, N.C. in 2015. She got married in May 2021 and they have three daughters and one 2-year-old granddaughter.
Joe Moon
Joe graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Microbiology and currently resides in Athens with his wife and their three children. Joe brings many years of relevant experience in business, investment, entrepreneurship as well as serving on nonprofit boards to the team. In the past 14 years, Joe has had great success with several various business ventures in fields including technology, consulting, and real estate. Joe is the founder of Velocity Technology Partners, and is a co-founder of Athens Capital Partners, Skytale, Inc and Accelerate Commercial and Business. He is also an active investor in both business and commercial real estate. Joe was the past chairman of the board of ESP and has served on the board of Swamp Camp Services, a Christian based summer camp. When he's not hard at work, Joe enjoys hiking, fishing, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs.
Johnelle Simpson
At Fortson, Bentley and Griffin, P.A., Johnelle Simpson focuses his practice in the areas of business and commercial litigation, employment matters, personal injury, and general civil litigation. Prior to his legal career, Simpson worked with area businesses in Athens-Clarke County, Georgia to provide high school students with internship and apprenticeship opportunities. Simpson provided youth with career, life, leadership, and employability skills necessary for a successful future. The programming efforts provided by Simpson allowed over 250 youth to bridge the gap between high school and postsecondary/workforce options. In the community, Simpson serves as President of the Georgia Hugh O' Brian Youth Leadership Corporate Board, board member of the Athens Land Trust, and board member of United Way of Northeast Georgia. He has previously served as Chair of the Education Committee for the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, and board member of the Georgia 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees.
Jen Welborn
Jen Welborn is the Director of Institutional Advancement at Athens Technical College. She oversees the Athens Tech Foundation, which raises funds for scholarships, emergency assistance and assists students with paying off their past due balances. Jen is from Chapel Hill, NC, and earned a degree in Human Services from Elon University. She is in the 2021-22 class of LEAD Athens, an active member of the Rotary Club of Athens and the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, serves on the College Factory Board of Directors and is the 2022 Chair of Women United, an affinity group for United Way of Northeast Georgia. Jen is passionate about helping others. She is a volunteer application reader for the Jeannette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund and serves as a Workforce Development Grant Review Panelist for United Way of Northeast Georgia. Jen most recently served on the Board of Directors for Books for Keeps and was a Chamber Ambassador for the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce. Jen is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Atlanta Chapter and Young Nonprofit Professionals Network Atlanta. Outside of work, Jen enjoys baking and watching Duke men’s basketball.
