The COVID-19 Community Response Fund hosted by the Athens Area Community Foundation in partnership with United Way of Northeast Georgia is asking for the community to match a recent gift.
Through the generosity of The Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Family Foundation, the COVID-19 Community Response Fund has received a gift of $50,000. This incredible contribution will account for $174,000 raised since the fund was launched. Over the next seven days, the Athens Area Community Foundation and United Way of Northeast Georgia are asking the community to match, dollar for dollar, the commitment of The Wilbur and Hilda Glenn Family Foundation.

“We are asking our community to consider a donation to the COVID-19 Community Response Fund today. Every dollar received for the next seven days will be used the match the generosity of The Glenn Family Foundation,” said Sarah McKinney, President and CEO of the Athens Area Community Foundation.

COVID-19 is amplifying needs in the Athens area and across Northeast Georgia, and this fund gives community members a way to contribute to meeting those needs. The COVID-19 Community Response Fund will support local organizations providing essential services associated with the pandemic in our community.

Next week, a first round of donations will be distributed to nonprofits meeting pressing needs associated with the pandemic in the community. The Athens Area Community Foundation with the guidance of United Way of Northeast Georgia and other community leaders, is coordinating the deployment of financial resources as rapidly as possible to selected organizations. “We are working to distribute funding as efficiently and effectively as possible. Knowing the needs are growing, it is our goal to make several rounds of grants from the COVID-19 Community Response Fund and work along the way to understand and address the spectrum of need,” said McKinney.

“This recent gift and call to match provides a significant opportunity for us to grow the COVID-19 Community Response Fund. It is our goal to serve our local nonprofits and to provide for those working for the highest-risk and most in-need populations at this time,” said Kay Keller, President and CEO of United Way of Northeast Georgia.
