The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital a 5-star overall rating for quality of care, making it one of only nine hospitals in Georgia and 400 in the United States to receive CMS’s top-quality rating.

CMS evaluates thousands of American hospitals that accept Medicare and Medicaid patients. The overall star rating is based on how well a hospital performs across different areas of quality, including mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care. Ratings can be reviewed by consumers on the CMS Care Compare site at https://www.medicare.gov/care-compare/.

The CMS site provides a user-friendly format that lets consumers see a quality summary rating across multiple dimensions of care. Good Samaritan Hospital’s 5-star rating highlights excellence in sepsis care, heart attack care, emergency department patient throughput, and improvements in imaging ordering and scheduling.

“Receiving a 5-star rating is a real accomplishment for any hospital, but especially for a critical access rural hospital,” said Stonish Pierce, president and CEO of Trinity Health of Georgia, which includes Good Samaritan Hospital. “It reflects the tremendous commitment and ongoing dedication of the hospital’s Board, physicians, leaders and staff to ensuring our patients receive safe, top-quality care.”
