Athens Academy’s campus has been busy at the end of December with year-end improvements and upgrades. While the students and faculty are on winter break until January 3, the facilities team has overseen the installation of a new chiller in the Bertelsmann Building—a project which required the use of an industrial crane for the day.

Also in the Bertelsmann Building, new flooring was installed in the lobby areas, replacing the original hardwood from the building’s construction in the 1990s. The Bertelsmann Building is home to the Middle and Upper School Media Center as well as the lab spaces for the Robotics, Virtual Reality, and Media Production programs.

In the Drew Swan Building connector, new lockers and areas for hanging bags and backpacks are being mounted for use by the fifth grade classes. The Drew Swan Building opened last year and houses the classrooms for seventh and eight grades.

Many other smaller projects are also slated for completion over the break, including trimming and pruning of trees and bushes and cleaning of flower beds and natural areas across the campus. Athens Academy has over 150 acres in Oconee County off of Highway 441.
