Staff Report From Athens CEO

Wednesday, August 28th, 2019

The Athens Cultural Affairs Commission (ACAC) invites professional artists and designers to submit a proposal for public art on the Athens Music Walk of Fame (AMWF), in Athens, Georgia. This project requires a designed template that will be used for making bronze plaques about each inductee to the Athens Music Walk of Fame. The plaques will be placed in the sidewalks of Downtown Athens.

Athens is a university town known for its diverse and creative music scene. From well known bands originating from Athens, important recording studios, singers and songwriters, the music industry and talent have contributed greatly to the identity of Athens. The AMWF will celebrate Athens’ breadth and contribution to the music scene with sidewalk plaques placed around and in front of notable venues such as the 40 Watt, the Morton Theatre, and the Georgia Theatre in downtown Athens. (Please see map of proposed AMWF area.) The Athens Music Walk of Fame is part of a SPLOST funded project #21 for public art and a recommendation of the Public Art Master Plan to develop a Cultural Trail.

Proposed Music Walk Area:

The goals for the Athens Music Walk of Fame are to enhance the visual and experiential appeal of Downtown Athens for all users, and to foster community identity and pride.

The deadline for receiving proposals is 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019.

The submission form is available online.
