The Lyndon House Arts Center is hosting the exhibition "A Century of Art: The Athens Art Association, 1919-2019" with an opening reception on Thursday, June 6, 6:00-8:00 pm. The exhibition continues on view through August 15 during regular gallery hours of Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon - 9:00 p.m., and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The Lyndon House Arts Center presents "A Century of Art: The Athens Art Association, 1919 – 2019" to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Athens Arts Association, featuring works by members of the association from each decade, past to present.

Founded in 1919 by Laura Blackshear, the Athens Art Association continues to thrive. During monthly meetings, held on the first Thursday of each month at the Lyndon House Arts Center, members share ideas, materials, and concepts, and support each other with exhibition opportunities and more.
Organized and co-curated by Christine Langone, an Emerita Professor in Leadership Education at UGA, and the Lyndon House Arts Center’s preparator Celia Brooks, the exhibit features works by long-time members Lucy Stanton, Sallie Goodwyn, Millie Dearing, Rainey Gentry, Joan Hill, Connie Flynn, Nancy Roberson, Jean Gibson, Hildegarde Timberlake, and more.

Co-curator Christine Langone reflects that the exhibit “highlights the tremendous contribution the Athens Art Association has made to Athens area artists through its educational programs, artistic activities, and sharing/comradery which enhance the lives and creativity of its members over 10 decades.”

The closing reception and program are scheduled for Thursday, August 15 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Additional Athens Art Association Centennial Celebration exhibits and events will be held at the Georgia Museum of Art and the Athens-Clarke County Library.
