Oconee County native Devin A. Stephens, M.D., and St. Mary's Medical Group opened a new primary care medical practice, St. Mary's Family Medicine, on Nov. 26, with the office located just off Ga. 316 at 1181 Langford Drive, Watkinsville.

As a board-certified family practice physician, Dr. Stephens works to create a relationship with patients that promotes trust and open communication. He provides wellness and routine sick care for all ages starting with newborns, including ordering tests, diagnosing problems, prescribing medication, and referring patients to specialists as needed.

Dr. Stephens grew up in Oconee County and returned to Watkinsville after completing his medical education because of his love for the area. He comes to St. Mary's Medical Group from his previous location in Statham, where he has been practicing for the last two years.

Dr. Stephens earned his bachelor's degree in astrophysics from the University of Georgia and his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He completed his family medicine residency at Cabarrus Family Medicine/Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast in Concord, N.C. He hopes to remain in this area until the end of his medical career.

Outside of work, Dr. Stephens has enjoyed participating in volunteer efforts since high school. Most recently, he has been involved in hurricane relief efforts in Florida and serving in his church. Dr. Stephens has been involved in free clinics and caring for the poor throughout his medical career and is dedicated to providing the best care at minimal cost to his patients.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Stephens loves spending time with his wife, their two sons and foster children, and their two dogs. He has a deep love for family and community and with his wife has been a foster parent for the past two years. He enjoys good food, good company, and lazy Saturday afternoons watching football.
