Dr. Suneetha Chekuri Joining Georgia Family Medicine

Suneetha Chekuri, MD, a primary care physician currently practicing with Sy Med in Tucker and Norcross, Ga., is joining Georgia Family Medicine in Watkinsville effective Sept. 24.

As a board-certified family practice physician, Dr. Chekuri works to create a relationship with patients that promotes trust and open communication. She provides wellness and routine sick care for patients age 6 and up, including ordering tests, diagnosing problems, prescribing medication, and referring patients to specialists as needed.

Dr. Chekuri will be joining Drs. Alice Edwards and David Gaines. She has a special interest in women's health and is fluent in English, Telugu and Hindi.

A native of India, Dr. Chekuri completed her initial medical training at Kurnool Medical College/Sri Venkatesara University and earned her diploma in Obstetrics and Gynecology from Kurnool Medical College/N.T.R. University of Health Sciences, both in Andhra Pradesh, India. After completing her medical education, she practiced in India and later in Jamaica as a primary care physician and obstetrics and gynecologist from 1994 to 2009. She came to the United States in 2009 and completed her family medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Selma Family Medicine Residency Program.

In addition to providing primary care at Sy Med, Dr. Chekuri has served as an attending physician at Gwinnett Medical Center's Glancy Rehabilitation Center in Duluth and at Salude Rehabilitation Facility in Suwanee. Both centers help patients maximize their recovery from conditions such as stroke, heart disease, trauma, and musculoskeletal conditions. Since 2015, Dr. Chekuri also has served as a preceptor for medical students through the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
