Athens-Clarke Government Seeks Volunteers for Board Appointments

The Athens-Clarke County government is looking for 11 volunteers to serve on eight of its citizen policy-making boards.

The positions are unpaid, but each offers a chance to make a difference in the community.

Here are the positions open:

    • One seat on the Athens-Clarke County Library Board for a partial term expiring on Dec. 31, 2019.

    • Two on the Athens Downtown Development Authority for terms of two years. One position must be a downtown business owner and one position must be a downtown property owner.

    • One on the Department of Behavioral Health and Development Disabilities Region 2 Advisory Council for a term of three years.

    • One on the Division of Family and Children Services Board for a term of five years.

    • One on the Georgia’s Innovation Corridor Joint Development Authority for a term of four years.

    • One on the Hearings Board for a partial term expiring on June 30, 2020.

    • One on the Historic Preservation Commission for a partial term expiring on June 30, 2019.

    • Three seats on the Vision Committee for terms of three years.

To qualify, applicants must be Athens-Clarke County residents and registered to vote. Incumbents may reapply for the positions on the Division of Family and Children Services Board, the Athens Downtown Development Authority, the Innovation Corridor Joint Development Authority and the Vision Committee.

Applications can be filled out online at www.accgov.com/clerkofcommission or obtained at the Clerk of Commission office — room 204 in City Hall.

The deadline for applications is June 8.

The Athens-Clarke mayor and commission are tentatively scheduled to interview applicants in the afternoon and evening of June 26 and to make board appointments at a July 3 meeting.
