Staff Report From Athens CEO

Monday, October 31st, 2016

Piedmont Athens Regional is offering a free conference for physicians and other health care professionals focused on pharmacology topics on Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“We are very excited with the dynamic and engaging speakers for this conference,” said Dr. Geoffrey Marx, hospitalist at Piedmont Athens Regional and medical director for the conference.

Dr. Marx, who chairs the hospital’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, said that the need for this conference is important to all health providers: physicians, Physician Assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, nurses, and other health providers.

“With many new drugs every year including high risk medications, keeping up with the latest evidence based recommendations can be overwhelming for busy health care professionals,” he said.

Topics for this year’s conference include vaccines to treat addictions, medication reconciliation, anticoagulants, antibiotics, herbals and supplements, opioid use disorders, as well as medication and the elderly.

The conference will be held in the Medical Services Building at Piedmont Athens Regional.  Continuing education credit is available for both physicians and pharmacists. This conference is free and open to all members of the health care team.
