The University of Georgia Golf Course in partnership with the UGA Foundation will host the Third Annual Ed Hoard Memorial First Tee Scholarship Golf Tournament on May 15. The event is open to the public.

Ed Hoard, a PGA master professional, was a highly decorated golf official in the Athens community, serving as head golf pro at the Athens Country Club from 1980-2006. He then moved to the UGA Golf Course, where he assisted with tournaments and taught lessons.

Toward the end of his career, Hoard worked to bring the First Tee Program to Athens. The international youth development organization introduces the game of golf and its values to young people. Although he died before he could implement the program at UGA, Hoard’s passion has been carried on by his wife, Kathy, with the creation of the Ed Hoard Memorial First Tee Scholarship Fund. This need-based scholarship was created to help young men and women from the First Tee programs in Georgia obtain their dreams of attending UGA.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Ed Hoard Memorial First Tee Scholarship Fund. The entry fee is $100 per player and includes golf, lunch, beverages, after-round snacks and tee gifts. The format for the tournament will be a four-person team modified scramble.
