Clarke Central, Cedar Shoals Named AP Honor Schools

The Georgia Department of Education recently announced its 2014 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools. Both Cedar Shoals High School and Clarke Central High School received accolades.   

"I am pleased that we are again receiving statewide recognition in Advanced Placement achievement, as well as the diversity of students achieving in our program," said Superintendent Philip D. Lanoue. "I commend our teachers, students, administrators and parents for their hard work that resulted in this well-deserved recognition."  

Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central were both recognized in the following categories:  

-AP Access and Support School: Schools with at least 30% of their AP exams taken by students who identified themselves as African-American and/or Hispanic and 30% of all AP exams earning scores of 3 or higher  

- AP STEM School: Schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses (AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, AP Computer Science)  

-AP STEM Achievement School: Schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses and at least 40% of the exam scores on AP math and AP science exams earning scores of three (3) or higher  

Notably, both Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central each received $1400 AP Teacher Training Grants from the Georgia State Board of Education. These funds will be used for training in a variety of subject areas at the 2014 AP Summer Institutes.
