Of the money, $3,918 was awarded for music and arts programs and experiences and $6,058 for instruments and equipment, bringing the total to date that AthFest Educates has donated to local teachers and educators to more than $290,000.

The largest grant was for instruments for Clarke Middle School’s orchestra. The $3,555 grant will purchase three 3/4-size cellos and two 4/4-size cellos. Lamar Dodd School of Art at UGA and Clarke Middle School received a grant to implement an after school art program for middle school girls, exploring place and community, the program culminates in a public art tile and mirror mosaic to be installed in May. Whit Davis Elementary got a grant for 150 first and fourth grade students to use puppetry arts to master their science curriculum. Fowler Drive Elementary received a grant for 43 ESOL students to go to Canopy Studio for an aerial arts program that will link vocabulary to a unique physical activity.
