Javy Lopez to Headline Golf Tourney for St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital

Staff Report From Athens CEO

Thursday, April 2nd, 2015

Former Atlanta Braves catcher Javy Lopez will be the special honoree at the 2015 Bucky Dent Legends on the Links golf tournament to be held on Monday, Oct. 5, at the beautiful Reynolds Plantation National course.  The tournament will again benefit St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital.

The announcement was made by Bucky Dent, former major league shortstop and 1978 World Series Most Valuable Player, during a press conference held recently at the state-of-the-art hospital.

“Javy Lopez was inducted in the Atlanta Braves Hall of Fame last year and still remains one of the best catchers of Major League Baseball,” said Dent, a property owner and community member in Greene County for many years.  “We are happy to benefit Good Samaritan Hospital again this year. We are proud of the facility and the impact that it’s making in the area.”

Following the announcement, Dent presented last year’s tournament proceeds, amounting to over $33,000, to Montez Carter, Good Samaritan Hospital President, and Rick Wolfert, Good Samaritan Foundation Chairman.

Hall of Famer Wade Boggs was last year’s honoree, and other celebrity guests included Andres Galarraga, Rick Cerone, Chris Chambliss and Cecil Fielder. Legends on the Links is a philanthropic organization founded by longtime friends Bucky Dent and Larry Hoskin that is dedicated to providing financial support to charities and community organizations through fundraising efforts.

“Reynolds Plantation is the perfect venue for this event,” Dent added. “The volunteers and staff did an outstanding job last year. We are looking forward to a bigger and better tournament this year.”

“Last year’s inaugural tournament was a huge success,” said Wolfert. “We are proud to be the beneficiary of this tournament and we appreciate Bucky and Larry for their continued support of the hospital and the community.”

Legends on the Links will start with a cocktail party at the beautiful Sandy Creek Barn on Oct. 4, and a shotgun start at the National Course the next morning. This year, there will be an exclusive VIP Reception for sponsors to meet and mingle with guest celebrities.  For sponsorship information, please contact Ted and Riezl Baker at (706) 340-5554.
