Staff Report

Wednesday, November 16th, 2022

At the Nov. 14 Oconee County Board of Education meeting, the Board unanimously approved a redistricting plan due to the opening of Dove Creek Middle School in August 2023. With 20.4% growth since 2013 and Malcom Bridge Middle School currently above building capacity, this plan will bring all schools within capacity and allow for future growth.

“The Board is committed to meeting the current needs of our community, while also preparing for future growth” said Board Chair Kim Argo. “The Board appreciates the public input we have received, and we believe the approved redistricting plan meets the needs of our growing community while causing the least amount of disruption for the families we serve.”

More information is available on the district’s web site at: www.oconeeschools.org/redistricting. On this site are the new redistricted maps and a street index.

The Board of Education hosted a Listening session Tues., Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. at North Oconee High School. In addition, a variety of feedback was submitted via an online form that was made available for the last two months to the OCS community.

“We would like to thank the OCS staff and our community for their diligence and engagement throughout this redistricting process” said Argo.
