Synovus today announced the appointment of John Tebeau as market executive for the Athens area. Tebeau succeeds Laurie Clarke, who retired from Synovus at year-end 2020 after 34 years with the bank.

“John is a dedicated community leader with extensive banking experience and deep personal knowledge of industries and economic development opportunities in the Athens area,” said Bill Douglas, Synovus division CEO. “Although Laurie will be missed following a well-earned retirement, customers and team members will be in great hands under John’s leadership.”

Tebeau joined Synovus in 1997 after graduating from The University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. He started in the bank’s management associate program, then held positions as assistant manager and manager in retail banking. He joined commercial banking in 2000 and currently serves as vice president/commercial banker, with responsibility for commercial and industrial customers.

Tebeau graduated from the Georgia Bankers Association Banking School, where he was class president, as well as the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He has also served in numerous leadership capacities in a variety of organizations including The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, The Boys of Girls Club of Athens, and Athens Area Homebuilders Association.
