OCS Named a Top National District for Innovative Technology Initiatives

Oconee County Schools has been named in the top 2% of districts nationwide for innovative use of technology by the Center for Digital Education and the National School Boards Association. OCS is one of only two systems in Northeast Georgia to receive this commendation as a Digital School Districts Survey Awards winner.

“The leadership of our district and school-level administrators, along with the tireless dedication of our teachers, have resulted in Oconee County Schools being recognized for innovation in digital learning,” said Superintendent Jason Branch. “We look forward to expanding our digital initiatives, while ensuring students receive all the tools they need to be successful in their K-12 education and post-graduation.”

The 14th annual Digital School Districts Survey Awards honors the school boards/districts that most fully implement technology benchmarks in the evolution of digital education. Areas resulting in commendation for the districts selected include personalized learning, professional development, cybersecurity, use of digital platforms to manage and track student data, and much more.

Oconee County Schools utilizes technology in a number of areas, with some highlights below:

  • Robust integration of Simbli platform to provide information on school board meetings, policies, strategic plan, and more

  • Comprehensive social media – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube

  • Successful pilot of itslearning (Learning Management System) with full integration for the 2018-19 school year; middle school English Language Arts classes were first to adopt a digital curriculum through this platform

  • 1:1 initiative to roll out by the 2019-20 school year

  • STEM districtwide with a number of innovations – interactive whiteboards, coding, robotics, 3-D printers, digital microscopes, makerspaces, Google Expeditions, and more
