The conference offers an opportunity for new and beginning farmers, foresters, agricultural producers and landowners to learn more about land conservation and equity issues, sustainable agricultural practices, technical assistance and developing business plans.

The conference is expecting about 200 people from 14 counties in northeast Georgia. The registration fee is $20 and includes farm tours, workshops, materials and food.

The conference will feature farm tours, hands-on workshops and networking with other farmers, government and non-government agencies.

“We are excited to bring together an amazing group of people who can share practical information that sustainable farmers, food entrepreneurs and landowners can use right away,” said Heather Benham, executive director of Athens Land Trust, a nonprofit that promotes conservation and land use.

The workshops will highlight such topics as marketing and farm equipment demonstrations. Speakers include Farm Service Agency Statewide Director Tas Smith and Natural Resources Conservation Service State Conservationist Director Terrance Rudolph; Savi Horne of North Carolina’s Land Loss Prevention Project; Sophie Ackoff from the National Young Farmer Coalition; and Brennan Washington from Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education.
