ACCGOV to Host 9th Annual Roll Out the Barrels Fundraiser May 23rd

Staff Report From Athens CEO

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019

The Athens-Clarke County Stormwater Management Program and Water Conservation Office will co-host the ninth annual Roll Out the Barrels fundraiser on Thursday, May 23rd from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at The Foundry (295 E. Dougherty Street). The event will feature a silent auction of 16 beautiful rain barrels painted by local artists, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and live music. Roll Out the Barrels raises money to support the ACC Green Schools Program, an initiative that encourages environmental education in Athens-Clarke County schools.

Water pollution is a serious problem in Athens-Clarke County and green infrastructure, such as rain barrels and other rain harvesters, are an important component in addressing that problem. Rain barrels are easy-to-install and can be used to protect water by both reducing runoff and reducing the need to pull from city water supplies for lawn-care and car washing.
