The event was attended by over 80 guests, including local, state and national elected officials, community leaders and the captains of industry throughout Athens.

    Carmike 12 off Lexington Road has completed its transformation into Ovation 12. People who often travel Lexington Road may recall the theatre’s sign sudden display of the message “Closed for Remodeling” with no information regarding the length of the closure or what was to be expected. We have since learned that the theater was being upgraded and converted to offer in-theater dining. Almost a year later we can see that it was well worth the wait.

    Wayne Hale began his career at McCann Machining Company on July 23, 1971, soon after returning from his service in Vietnam as part of the 11th Calvary Regiment. Hale started out nearly forty-four years ago at McCann as a machine operator while attending night classes at Athens Tech using the G.I. Bill to earn his degree in Machine Tool Technology and eventually worked his way up to Senior Quality Engineer.

    The Southern Brewing Company broke ground on the property located at 231 Collins Industrial Boulevard off US Highway 29 near Athens Tech on August 1st. The brewery plans to be operational in May 2015 and eventually grow to employ approximately 30 people. The brewery has plans for brewery tours and tastings, a music venue, a farmer’s market, an artist market, bike trails, a yeast lab, an art camp, and more.
